About Tedzukuri Atelier
Tedzukuri Atelier is our lighting studio, founded in Paris in 2015.
I’m Ana, an architect and designer with a deep sensitivity to space, structure, and the way light shapes interiors. Travel has always influenced my creative vision — observing materials, forms, and atmospheres across cultures continues to inspire our work.
Pedro began his career as a biology researcher before transitioning into management and business. His scientific background shapes the way we approach sustainability, material responsibility, and long-term thinking within the studio.
We started Tedzukuri Atelier shortly after the birth of our daughter. Becoming parents sparked a deeper reflection on sustainability — not as a design trend, but as a responsibility. This shift led us to explore paper as a renewable, expressive, and low-impact material for lighting.
Since then, we have built the studio around craftsmanship, thoughtful production, and the quiet transformation of light through paper.
A Handmade Paper Lighting Studio in Paris
Tedzukuri Atelier is a Paris-based lighting studio dedicated to handmade paper lamps, including origami-inspired designs, sculptural lampshades, table lamps, and wall sconces.
Each piece is folded, shaped, and assembled by hand in our atelier in Paris, France. We do not use industrial production. Subtle variations are part of the process, making every lamp slightly unique.
Our work began with origami techniques, but has evolved into a broader exploration of paper as a lighting material — creating forms that diffuse light softly and naturally.
Our Origins in Origami
“Tedzukuri” (手作り) means “handmade” in Japanese.
Origami was the starting point of our studio. The discipline of folding, precision, and structure shaped our design language. Even as our collections expand beyond traditional origami forms, the influence remains visible in the geometry, balance, and lightness of our pieces.
Origami is our foundation — paper is our medium.
Why We Work With Paper
Paper transforms light in a way few materials can.
Unlike rigid or opaque materials, paper softens brightness and creates a warm, atmospheric glow. It filters light gently, producing depth and shadow while maintaining a sense of lightness.
We select high-quality ecological paper for its durability, diffusion quality, and responsible sourcing. Our designs may include folded, curved, layered, or sculpted paper structures, depending on the collection.
Handmade in Paris
All Tedzukuri Atelier lighting is designed and crafted in our Paris atelier.
We produce in small batches or on demand to maintain quality control and avoid overproduction. This approach allows us to focus on craftsmanship rather than volume, reducing waste while preserving the integrity of each piece.
Since 2019, our studio has been officially labelled [Fabriqué à Paris], a distinction awarded by the City of Paris to highlight local craftsmanship and responsible production. This recognition reflects our commitment to designing and manufacturing our lighting entirely in Paris.
Local production is not simply a logistical choice — it is central to our philosophy of sustainable design, transparency, and long-term responsibility.
Our Approach to Sustainability
For us, sustainability is a series of conscious decisions rather than a marketing label.
We work primarily with paper instead of plastic-based materials. We produce in limited quantities to avoid overproduction and unnecessary waste. Our packaging remains minimal and carefully considered.
Our lamps are designed for durability through quality craftsmanship and material selection. At the end of their life, the paper structures are fully recyclable.
Responsible design begins with material choice and continues through local production, small-scale manufacturing, and thoughtful use of resources.
For Homes and Spaces That Value Craft
Tedzukuri Atelier lighting is chosen by interior design enthusiasts, boutique hotels, architects, and individuals who appreciate handmade objects.
Our lamps are often placed in bedrooms, dining areas, reading corners, and creative studios — spaces where soft, sculptural light enhances atmosphere.
